Character: Watanuki Kimihiro
Series: xxxHOLiC
Character Age: About 15-18. A high school student.
Canon: xxxHOLiC's protagonist Watanuki Kimihiro is a very unique young man -- he already lives by himself, he's great at cooking and cleaning, and he pretty much excels at anything he does. He also works part-time at a very unique shop -- that of space-time witch Ichihara Yuuko, who will grant almost any wish if one is willing to pay the price. So why is he working there? To lose perhaps his most defining characteristic -- his ability to see and attract spirits. Spirits have haunted him for as long as he can possibly remember. The boy lives in constant fear of dying a horribly painful death by consumption or some other equally terrifying means.
While this trauma-filled lifestyle has made him something of an incredibly loud and paranoid little bugger, Watanuki is actually a very sweet and polite person who always goes out of his way to help people, and who always prioritizes others over himself, even those he claims to dislike, such as his employer and also classmate Doumeki Shizuka. Despite Watanuki's proclamations of utter loathing for Doumeki, the two have saved one another from a number of sticky situations, which slowly helps in showing Watanuki that he simply can't throw himself away for others all the time -- and also that Doumeki doesn't seem to be very intent on sweeping Watanuki's romantic interest, Kunogi Himawari, off of her feet.
Sample Post:
Ah -- hello, anyone? Can you hear me? I'm sorry to bother you, but it would seem that I'm at least a little lost. You see, my employer's instructions were very specific: a miss Elizabeth-san ordered some materials from the shop I work at. For "strengthening magical protective barriers"? And I've followed Yuuko-san's very specific instructions, except the door I walked through doesn't seem to be here anymore, and I don't seem to have the things I arrived with. There were some charms and talismans and dismembered fingers and --
Am I rambling? I'm rambling, aren't I? I'm sorry? I'm really, really sorry but -- well, I was told this was going to be a simple job and I wouldn't need the help of that cretin Doumeki and this probably means that Yuuko-san lied. Again. "Oh, Watanuki, won't you take this basket of goodies to the terribly kind young woman who needs them? Where does she live, you ask? Oh, just across the sea in an encampment filled to the very brim with all manner of things guaranteed to make anyone's skin crawl just like theirs -- I think I'm getting chills just thinking about it! But don't worry, we'll have you there in a hop, skip, and a jump right through this portal. I made it your favorite color and everything!"
IT'S FUNNY HOW SHE LIED ABOUT EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE--THINGS, WITH THE CRAWLING SKIN. THERE WAS NOTHING GOOD IN THAT BASKET! DISMEMBERED FINGERS AND LITTLE PIECES OF PAPER WITH CREEPY PHRASES AND -- AND SOME KIND OF WEIRD FOREIGN SODA. What the hell does Mountain Dew have to do with protective coatings over evil encampments, anyway? NOT A HOP, SKIP, AND A JUMP, NO, THERE'S NOTHING LIKE WALKING THROUGH SOME WEIRD MAGIC DOOR ONLY TO EXIT JUST A FEW FEET ABOVE THE GROUND SO YOU FALL ON YOUR FACE. My fall was broken by something GRAY and SQUISHY that I DON'T WANT TO IDENTIFY. And -- and my favorite color is GREEN, DAMMIT. GREEN. YOU KNOW, GREEN? Like -- like the grass? The grass in places with sane and normal spring seasons with flowers that smell like flowers and not like rotten meat? It's -- it's like the animals and the vegetables are confusing themselves and each other and with the minerals and underwear retailers and WHERE THE HELL AM I? Green like -- I don't know. But I've been working for her for this long and it's like she doesn't even know me! I feel sorry for anyone with an employer that's ANYTHING LIKE HER! I feel sorry for me!
...oh. Oh. I'm -- you're still here. Aren't you. And -- and I'm very sorry for talking your ear off like this, but -- I guess I should concentrate on finding a way out of here, shouldn't I? I'll try retracing my steps, I think I walked a little far --
...oh! Now that I think about it, Himawari-chan's eyes are green! That must be why I like the color so much! They're the nicest shade of green that would put the grass and all the emeralds in the world and this lake right here to shame... ♥
...wait a second.
